About Me

I am Devasmita Jena, an assistant professor at Madras School of Economics, Chennai, India. I teach courses in International Trade and Applied Financial Econometrics. Before joining Madras School of Economics, I have handled roles relating to international trade policy, macro-economic development and monetary system as a research officer at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and as an officer on special duty (OSD) at the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

My primary areas of research are: international trade and development, trade policy, and applied econometrics. In my teaching, I try to show the students the links between economic theories and policymaking, and the interplay between the two. This website is an attempt to do the same with a wider audience, at a time when interest in trade is growing. If you are interested in a trade-related topic and would want to know more, or share your thoughts, do feel free to reach out to me.

When I am not teaching or researching, I read fiction and binge on movies from around the world, dabble in photography, dream about travelling and think about "life in general".

You can reach me at: devasmita@mse.ac.in
